Pambula Beach Flexible School
History and Philosophy
Pambula Beach Flexible School opened as a registered school in January 2020.
Our school is concentrated on strengthening key community relationships with particular focus on other education and training providers to establish and enhance ongoing pathways for young people. Since opening, our commitment has been to support and encourage an awareness of our school within the Bega Valley educational landscape as a special assistance school offering varied flexible learning options for young people who have difficulty meeting the demands of mainstream education.
Learning
Pambula Beach Flexible School offers an inclusive and non-discriminating learning community to young people who, for a variety of reasons, are disenfranchised from mainstream education. Young People are enrolled are from all genders, a variety of language, cultural, and religious backgrounds – with sensitivity to Indigenous culture – and, at times, are from backgrounds of socio-economic disadvantage. Young People are exposed to learning experiences that develop an understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultural values that constitute Australian society.
Importantly, PBFS young people are encouraged to participate in the decision-making processes that affect the school community, their own lives, and society in which they live. Learning is focused around the individual needs and abilities of young people and progress is carefully documented and monitored. Our students, in conjunction with their Teachers and Youth Workers, draft personalised learning plans with articulated education pathways. Each of our classes function as a small community led by a Teacher and Youth Worker partnership who facilitate learning options and support young person wellbeing and social development.
Young People Voice
Pambula Beach Flexible School works with young people who are vulnerable and who may experience complex inter-related needs. Community participation and school retention are key elements in the philosophy of all EREA Flexible Schools and the development of moral reasoning through the application of our Four Principles prepares young people for responsible citizenship. Pambula Beach Flexible School learning experiences strive to build self-confidence and esteem in young people, promote an optimistic view of their potentialities and future, and assist them to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to enjoy a healthy and fulfilling life.
